"Peach Fuzz Honies" (sic), 2013
digital print of front and back page of scanned embroidery on vintage pornographic magazine
unframed, each: 34 x 28 1/4 inches
Embroidery is such a sexy medium. Where else have women been permitted to penetrate repeatedly, and all by themselves no less? A soft art, and considered to be feminine in nature, sewing also contains a violent potential which is not usually associated with the "fairer sex".

Between 8pm-8am in the summer of 2013, I sat behind the counters of The Fantasy Factory—Western Canada’s oldest franchise sex-shop. This graveyard-shift cashier position was a profound source of material during my time in Vancouver. Art/Porn: A History of Seeing and Touching by Kelly Dennis became a manifesto; reading Lisa Jean Moore and Juliana Weissbein’s “Cocktail Parties: Fetishizing Semen in Pornography beyond Bukkake” while peddling sex-toys and peep-show tokens, allowed the text to take on somatic layers. An awareness of the pornographic undercurrent in culture, and the desire to utilize embedded research practices, have preoccupied my practice ever since.
